Restrict certain apps from being downloaded from the App Store and opened on an iPhone.
You can choose between a blocklist or allowlist approach.
Blocklist
Specify apps you want blocked on your iPhone. Even if those apps are installed on your iPhone, you won't have the ability to open them.
Apps not listed in your Blocklist will be unaffected.
Apps on your Blocklist will not be uninstalled or prevented from being downloaded. However, you will not be able to open them.
App Allowlist
If you need a highly restrictive setup (such as a dumb phone), you can instead choose a limited number of apps that are allowed on your iPhone.
Only apps listed on your Allowlist can be opened. Other apps (except for Settings and the Phone app) are blocked.
Apps that are blocked remain installed on your iPhone; they will not be deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find the App Blocklist and App Allowlist wizards?
On the Tech Lockdown dashboard, go to Tools > iPhone / iPad > App Management.
Can I block the Settings app?
No. The Settings app cannot be blocked on iOS devices.
We instead recommend using Supervised Config Presets to control settings that might conflict with content filtering.
How do I create a self-destructing Config?
Both App Allowlists and App Blocklists have the option to automatically self-destruct after a certain period of time. When you're creating your lists on the dashboard, look for the "How long should this allowlist/blocklist be active?" section. Instead of selecting Always, choose Temporary, then set the number of hours and minutes until the list deletes itself.
You can use this if you want to commit to a technology fast or focus session.
