Cloudflare might send you an email with: "[Action Required] Reminder: Update Your Device Certificate Before Expiration". Everything you need to perform this update is included in the Tech Lockdown dashboard.
Is the Cloudflare certificate required?
It's highly recommended, but not required, to install and trust the Cloudflare certificate.
This certificate is required if you'd like to use these features:
- Seeing which rule is blocking a website by displaying a descriptive block page. Without the certificate, you'll just see an unsecured content warning without any description of why the webpage is being blocked.
- Using HTTP filtering rules (this isn't supported by the dashboard, so chances are this doesn't apply to most Tech Lockdown members)
Step 1: Generate a Certificate
In the Tech Lockdown dashboard, navigate to Settings > Certificates (under the Cloudflare section). Choose one of these options depending on your scenario to ensure you have an active certificate, then proceed to step 2.
Scenario A) No existing certificates
If you don't any certificates, click the Generate Certificate button.
This will create, activate, and set the certificate to "In Use."
You can now proceed to step 2.
Scenario B) Existing certificate that is not expired
If you already have a certificate associated with your account, verify the following:
- The certificate expiration date should be several years in the future and have the green "In Use" tag.
- If the certificate does not have the In Use tag, click the dropdown menu and select "Turn On."
If you have an unexpired certificate that is turned on, you can proceed to step 2.
Scenario C) Expiring certificate
If you have an existing certificate nearing the expiration date, you should switch to a new certificate.
Simply add a new certificate, then use the dropdown menu to turn it on and set it to "In Use"
You can now proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Download and Trust the Certificate
Once you've generated a certificate and it is set to "In Use," you need to both download and trust the certificate on your devices. Refer to the specific instructions for each device:
